CONSIDER THIS: WHAT IF THE CHURCH were miraculously removed from Malaysia in a moment? Would it be missed or would things carry on without us? Are we bringing revolutionary transformation to this land? Do we have what it takes to influence society and government policy? Can we steer public opinion? These questions and the honest introspection required to answer them will help us to gauge the influence of the Church in our nation.

In Luke 4:18-19, Jesus details His mission on earth when He said: "The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because He anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim release to the captives, and recovery of sight to the blind, to set free those who are oppressed, to proclaim the favorable year of the Lord." (NASB)

What is the Gospel? Is it just responding to God so that we do not go to hell? Is the Gospel not more than just saving us from hell and meeting our personal needs? Yes, it is much more than that. A large part of the Gospel is taking what God has given and done in us and allowing it to permeate our society. We must stop looking inward and at what it does for us and look instead at what it demands from us. We must begin to look at how we can be a blessing to our nation and an influence to the society we live in.

For far too long we have looked at the Church as a building or a meeting which we attend. Is this what Jesus intended for this group of people He calls His Church? We should all be aware that rather than it being somewhere we go to, the Church itself should be a-GOING!

WEEK 4 - 2 Chronicles 7:14 - 'If my people who are called by My Name, will humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sins and will heal their land.'

Recent statistics show an alarming rise in social ills such as child prostitution, abortion, baby dumping, rape and HIV cases.
a. Child Prostitution - there are 4,000 child prostitutes between the ages of 9 -18.
b. Abortion - 1 in 5 pregnancies ends in abortion.
c. Baby Dumping - a baby is dumped every 10 days.
d. Rape - in Malaysia, someone is raped every 2.5 hours. In 2010, there were 3,595 reported rape cases.
e. HIV - there are 80,938 cases of HIV, 13,000 with AIDS and 10,000 have since died. An average of 18 Malaysians are tested positive for HIV daily. 40% of total infected are below 29 years of age.

As we stand united in love, let us be sensitive to the cry of the 'voiceless' victims of sexual crimes so that God will intervene and purify this land of such wickedness.

Prayer

Pray for repentance and healing upon our nation for all the sins and wickedness in the land.
Pray that we will be burdened by the moral decay and social ills of our nation, that we will rise and war against the spiritual forces behind the violence, crime and immorality.
Pray for the active involvement of the Local Church in partnering with relevant governmental agencies and ministries to eradicate social ills.
Pray that those who are marginalised, oppressed and afflicted will come into the saving knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ and be restored.

Prayer Focus: 16-22 July 2011

WEEK 3 - Ephesians 1:18-19a - 'I pray also that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which He has called you, the riches of His glorious inheritance in the saints, and His incomparably great power for those who believe.'

If we are going to reach our cities, we must change our mindset and take our position to be spiritual gatekeepers at the gates and walls of our city. If the spiritual gatekeepers can take their places and stand strong together, then the Body of Christ can have an indelible impact on what comes into and gets out of our cities. As long as we are content to guard our little homes or our little church groups, our cities will be in trouble. We, the Church, as spiritual gatekeepers must take our places. It's time for us to stand together to guard our cities and our nation against the spiritual forces of darkness that seeks to destroy this land.

Prayer -

Pray for strengthening upon each of us and our families, that we will rise up to be all that He has called us in Christ.
Pray for spiritual covering upon every level or leadership and their families within the Church.
Pray for wisdom and covering upon the various bodies (NECF, CFM, MNPN, Pastors' Fellowships) as they mobilise nation-wide efforts towards unity as a Body of Christ in this nation.
Pray for the Malaysian Church to rise up and take our position to influence the seven realms of government, church, marketplace, judiciary, family, media/arts and education.

Prayer Focus: 09-15 July 2011

WEEK 2 - Acts 1:8 - 'But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria and to the ends of the earth.'

As with all past revivals, it all starts with a desire and a longing to see spiritual change within our lives, our church, our community and our nation. It is in the faithful prayers of a few that God begins to respond and pour out His Spirit. It is His Spirit that does the work of awakening hearts, bringing fires of revival across the land.

Pray -

For a desire to experience the Holy Spirit in our personal lives, thereby drawing us closer to Him.
That the Church will be sensitive to the move of the Holy Spirit, demonstrating His power and love through signs, wonders and miracles that the name of Christ may be glorified.
That the Holy Spirit be evident in all churches in Malaysia, drawing all men to Christ in salvation.
That the Malaysian Church will be stirred to pray until revival visits our nation.

Prayer Focus: 02-08 July 2011

WEEK 1

John 17:21 - 'That all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that You have sent me.'

In heaven, there are no religious labels. We are all brothers and sisters in Christ regardless of which church they attend. We're all related by blood - the blood of Jesus! As believers, the Bible exhorts us to 'preserve the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace' (Ephesians 4:3). God doesn't tell us to create unity, He tells us to preserve it. A divided church is a wounded and weak church. The Father's plan for the Malaysian Church is for her to emerge from her denominational closet, to come together as one, making Christ as one Head, with one focus, and one purpose to fulfil His plan for this nation.

Prayer - UNITY

Pray for each of us to embrace the Father's heart to see His Church strengthened and united.
Pray for God's love to fill each of our hearts, demonstrating unconditional love, humility and submission to one another with the compassion and character of Christ.
Pray for unity and effective partnering amongst churches across denominations, coming together as one in advancing the kingdom of God.

A RETURN TO GOD'S PROMISE OF RESURRECTION!

Hosea 6:3 'Let us acknowledge the Lord; let us press on to acknowledge Him. As surely as the sun rises, He will appear; He will come to us like the winter rains, like the spring rains that water the earth.

At the heart of God's call to return, there is a promise of His Presence, His very Presence that will lead us to personal and corporate revival, just as the winter and spring rains serve to prepare the ground and bring maturity to the harvest. In this last promise, even as we put to death those very areas of our lives that hinder us from our destiny in God, there is a promise of resurrection onto the higher purpose of seeing God's Church transformed and empowered to fulfil her God-given destiny.

Pray that we will continue to press on to acknowledge God, that all that we are and all that we do is ultimately about Him and His glory.
Pray that we will know that it is in dying that God brings life. Without a spiritual dying to our self-life, there can be no resurrections or new beginnings.
Pray, acknowledging that our resurrection is through the power of the Holy Spirit and it is His Spirit that does that transforming work in us, empowering us to fulfil God's destiny for us as individuals and as a church. 'And if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit, who lives in you.' Romans 8:11
Pray that we will be so firmly entrenched on God's promise that 'as surely as the sun rises, He will appear' and grant us spiritual renewal and revival. Let us persist in seeking Him!

A RETURN TO GOD'S PROMISE OF RESTORATION!

Hosea 6:2 'After two days He will revive us; on the third day He will restore us that we may live in His Presence.'

Often, we are not aware of our desperate need for spiritual revival and restoration. Our fervour for 'church' and 'ministry' so often, subtly but surely replaces our true devotion to God. Over time, we allow ourselves to crowd Him out of our lives before we are suddenly confronted by the glaring truth of our spiritual condition of indifference, apathy, spiritual adultery and idolatry. God's heart for us, as His children and as His church, has always been and will continue to be one of restoration. He promises that if we were to return to Him, He will revive and restore us - in order that we may abide fully with Him.

Pray for God to revive us from spiritual deadness - that we will be revived from indifference, apathy, coldness of heart, sin dead works, spiritual adultery and any form of idolatry in our spiritual walk.
Pray, adknowledging that above everything else, we must return to that place where it is ALL about Him and our relationship with Him.
Pray that we will return to the plumb line of His Word, being sensitive to the voice of the Holy Spirit and choosing to walk in obedience.

A RETURN TO GOD'S PROMISE OF HEALING

Hosea 6:1 '... He has torn us to pieces but He will heal us, He has injured us but He will bind up our woulds.'

God's call to return us not without a deeper work within us. In Hosea F:1-3, God speaks of His intent to heal, to restore and to lead us to revival. Just like Israel, God will allow His dealings to come into our lives with the sole aim of drawing us back to Him. These dealings are not punitive and are intended to shape us to Christ-like maturity as His sons and daughters. Seasons of dealings are often painful but God desires us to come to that place where we can trust them in His hands, the hands of a loving God.

Pray that we will fully understand the Father's heart (Hebrews 12:4 - 11) in the area of spiritual discipline, knowing that in this, He treats us as His true sons and daughters.
Pray that we will correct our wrong projections of God and His dealings in our lives. Pray for right responses to the Father's dealings, knowing that He disciplines us because He loves us. Let our hearts not be hardened.
Pray that we will be willing to let go of everything that hinders our intimacy with God. Let us come continually to the altar of repentance and consecration - allowing God to do a deeper work within us.
Pray that we will know and understand that it is God's end intent to restore us, to mature us as His sons and daughters and to make us more Christ-like.

COME LET US RETURN!

Hosea 6:1 - ' Come let us return to the Lord...'

The call of God to Israel to return to Him lies at the very heart of God as a Father. God desired for Israel to know the depths of His love for her and sadly, in her rebellion, Israel never fully understood or embraced that love. What of us today? As His sons and daughters, Jesus reveals God to us as Abba, literally meaning 'Daddy' or 'Papa'. Our Daddy longs dearly for us to embrace the fullness of this love and it is out of this passionate longing that He still continues to draw us to return to Him in intimacy as His children.

Pray for God restore our desire for intimacy with Him.
Pray that we'll receive a deeper revelation of who God is, His Father's heart, His unconditional love and His very character of LOVE towards us.
Pray that we will be set free from every mindset, perception or inclination that hinders us from FREELY receiving the Father's love over us - living from a deep assurance that He does not require us to earn His love.
Pray that we will embrace with our whole being, the truth of God's love for us, and that we will open ourselves more fully to His heart concerning us. Let us come back to that place of intimate relationship with Him.

WEEK 7

Rebuilding The Walls Of Unity In Churches and Restoring God's Glory

THE ONLY UNANSWERED PRAYER OF JESUS IS, 'THAT THEY MAY BE ONE'.
How should we feel when we read this unanswered prayer today? What emotions should flood our heart? In John 17, Jesus prayed that we would 'be one' just before the final journey to His hideous death. This prayer was and is His 'last will and testament'. This is God's desire but it is held captive by humanity. Our disbelief and our stubborn insistence on our rights and personal agendas are shackles binding God's desire to our limitations. Jesus is still praying this same prayer over us today. DISUNITY COSTS US OUR CREDIBILITY. Jesus prayed that we would become one, so that the world would believe that God, the Father sent Jesus, His Son. There is no reason for the world to believe we are from God if we are disunited. Jesus has given the Church the same glory that God, the Father has given Him. Pray for -

The confession and renunciation of our pride, our insecurity, our independence and our need for control. Pray and ask God to clothe us with humility and grace to work with others for the extension of His Kingdom.
The Holy Spirit to convict us of gossip, rebellion, murmur, slander, dissension, strife, envy and covetousness. Pray for healing, restoration and reconciliation in every broken relationship and that love and forgiveness will prevail in the Church.
Inter-DENOMINATIONAL unity amongst the Malaysian Churches that they will come together as ONE, with one focus and purpose to fulfil His plan for this nation.
Inter-GENERATIONAL unity and that all generations will support and complement one another, recognising the uniqueness of each generation and empowering it to play its God-given role for the destiny of the nation.
An awareness of the enemy's strategies to disunite the church and that every assignment of disunity will be broken over the Church.
The restoration of God's glory upon His church. Declare Isaiah 60:1 over the nation. 'Arise, shine for your light has come and the GLORY OF THE LORD rises upon you!'

WEEK 6

Rebuilding The Walls of Evangelism & Discipleship

In the early church, God used ordinary people, not deemed significant by the world, to change the entire empire in Asia Minor. The kingdom of God is likened to both a growing seed and a mustard seed (Mark 4:26-32) which grows into a powerful movement that transforms the entire culture and society. Today, God still uses ordinary people like you and I, to impact nations. The Lord has declared that we are to reach out to the nations. All of us in every generation within His Body, MUST go forth and take hold of the nation. His command to us is to be strong and be of good courage and that we are not to be disheartened by the giants in the land. Whatever our fears, let us renounce every doubt, unbelief and hopelessness - being resolute in our conviction that MALAYSIA BELONGS TO THE LORD! He has promised to be with us and He will go before us, so therefore, let us arise and go forth to possess the land!

Pray for -

Our lack of love, compassion and apathy towards the lost. confess and repent that we have neglected God's mandate to disciple nations.
An awakening upon His Church to fulfil the Great Commission. Pray for the Lord of Harvest to send out laborers to the harvest fields. Pray that all of us will heed the call of God to evangelism and discipleship.
Pray for greater partnership and united efforts in the area of resources and finances between Peninsular and East Malaysia churches to formulate mission strategies that will reach the lost. Pray that new pioneers will be raised up and sent forth to reach the unreached in this nation. Many are still in darkness.
The planting of prayer cells in spiritually darkened places for the gospel to penetrate throughout the nation. Pray for Christians to arise in all realms of influence, reaching out and establishing strong discipleship in schools, colleges, neighborhood and marketplaces.
A powerful visitation of God's Spirit to stir and awaken all people groups to the Way, the Truth and the Life. Cry out for souls and national revival! Claim Isaiah 62:1 that Malaysia's salvation will be like His blazing Torch!

Rebuilding The Walls of Security

The world is under siege from increasing terrorism, extremism, lawlessness and violence. Over the years we have seen the same threats encroaching our nation, and society is at a loss to find the answers to curb the rising tide of wickedness and evil that is sweeping across the nation. The CHURCH needs to wake up to the reality that THIS WAR IS FAR FROM OVER and this wall needs to be rebuilt for the security of our generation and the generations to come. God has given us this land as an inheritance and we, His Church, are responsible to stand guard over our nation and pray for her peace and security.

Pray for -

The Church to rise up and war against the spiritual forces behind terrorism, religious extremism, lawlessness, violence, crime and immorality in our nation. Pray for protection, safety and peace to reign over our land.
The effective and impartial enforcement of law and order by the local authorities . Pray that all covert elements that are a threat to national security are crippled and exposed, and for wisdom and commitment by the authorities to root out these elements. Pray for God to raise a standard against the enemy and to thwart the enemy's attacks.
The government to uphold the Federal Constitution and the rights of all Malaysians regardless of race and religion, and to guard against all forms of extremism, racism and isolation.
The migrants in our land to be set free from all forms of oppression, to be treated justly and fairly, to be protected from exploitation and all forms of degrading treatment. Pray for their right to life to be protected under law and for them to experience the reality of God's presence through the Christian community. Pray against crime and violence by migrant groups who are threat to national security.

As our nation prepares herself for the upcoming general elections and the Sarawak state elections, it is crucial for us, His Church, to uphold the nation in prayer.

Pray for restoration of public confidence in agencies such as the judiciary, the Attorney-General's Office, the police forces and the MACC, which have been established and are duty-bound to uphold righteousness.
Pray for justice and truth to prevail over high-profile legal cases of public interest. Pray that those in positions of authority will discharge their duties in the fear of God and not man.
Pray against exploitation and harassment by enforcement officers on the weak, the poor and on businesses. Pray that those affected will have the boldness to come forward and report cases of abuse and corrupt practices.

WEEK 4

Rebuilding the Walls of Social Concerns

On a daily basis, we are confronted by troubling news reports of social ills plaguing our society. Here are some hard facts (based on available statistics).

Sexual Crimes. In 2003, 1,479 rape cases were reported, doubling to 3,098 in 2007. Sexual crimes are escalating against girls aged 16 and below. As many as 80% of cases are unreported as sex offenders are family members, relatives or friends. Pre-marital Sex, Teen Pregnancies and Baby Dumping. In 2010 (up to April), 111 young pregnant girls sought help from the Welfare Department, compared to 131 and 107 cases in 2009 and 2008 respectively. Pre-marital sex among the youth is on the increase. A study by UPM revealed that more than 300 teens aged between 13-25 admitted to having sex, with 85% not regretting their actions. There have been 517 reported cases of baby dumping since 2005, of which, 287 were found dead. Many more are unreported. Suicide. The National Suicide Registry Malaysia estimated that there are as many as 60 suicides a month. Many teenagers and young adults are taking their own lives in the face of mounting pressures in school, at work and in relationships. Divorces. In 2005, the rate of divorce in this nation is recorded at 13%. This percentage has since increased. Moral Decline. Negative influences vide the internet and various mainstream media are enticing our youth to ungodly lifestyles. Poverty. As of 2007, 3.6% of the population live below the national poverty line of RM500 monthly (per household of 4), an indicator that is unrealistically low. The plight of the marginalized and the indigenous people of this land are still not adequately addressed.

Pray for -

The Local Church to be relevant in recognising their responsibilities in addressing national concerns concerning poverty, moral decline and socio economic justice.
The active involvement of the Local Church in partnering with the relevant bodies to eradicate social ills. Pray for effective networking, strategies, favour and acceptance by the various governmental agencies and ministries for the nationwide implementation of Christian-based programmes.
Greater emphasis by the Local Church on ministries towards the youths, in ensuring that the next generation is raised up to make a stand for godly values and lifestyles. Pray against the spirits of addiction, rebellion and despair that seek to destroy our youths.
The authorities to be committed to the eradication of poverty and empowering the poor regardless of ethnic/religious backgrounds. Pray against any racial imbalance in the distribution of wealth that stirs up discontentment, anger and strife amongst the people.
The restoration and protection of rights of the indigenous OA of this nation. Pray that the authorities will not neglect the welfare of the OA and that there will be concerted efforts to protect their land rights.

Pray for the positioning of godly believers in high places of authority to be His prophetic voice to influence decisions and policies in state and national affairs.
Pray for the raising up of godly men and women in government, politics and judiciary who will seek the common good of our nation in regards to human rights, constitutional laws and religion.

WEEK 3

Rebuilding The Walls of Strong Families

The family unit is at the centre of God's covenant purpose. It is the first basic institution of human life. Through families, individuals and communities are saved. The breakdown of the family unit leads to a deterioration of community life, society and ultimately the nation. Ephesians 5:22-6:9 exhorts all parties within the family unit to do their part and perform their respective roles - whether as husband, wife or children - for the sake of the unity of the church. When each fulfil their roles and honour one another as unto the Lord, a spiritual transformation takes place. Transformed families lead to transformed communities and thereafter to a transformed nation. The family institution is under attack! Let us look to God to rebuild, strengthen and defend our families.

Pray for -

Healing and reconciliation in all families. Mutual love and submission to be restored at all levels of relationship within the family unit.
Fullness of the restoration of fathers to take their rightful role as head of household, leading by godly example, guarding and governing their homes in the fear of God.
Establishment of strong family altars, for a future generation who will be deeply rooted in God, one who will find their identity and security in Him and fulfil His calling and destiny. Start a family altar if you have not begun.
Protection for our youths against all perversion and distortion of marriages such as same-sex marriages, co-habitation and fornication.
Protection against every assignment of the enemy to destroy the institution of family, particularly in marriages. Pray for all families in FGA especially those in ministry.
Families who will love and honour the elderly and care for them in their golden years. Bless the elderly and pray that God will use them mightily as agents of change to influence the younger generation in godly ways.

'How happy are those who fear the Lord and all who follow His ways! You will enjoy the fruit of your labour. How happy you will be! How rich your life! Your wife will be like a fruitful vine, flourishing within your home. And look at all those children! There they sit around your table as vigorous and healthy as young olive trees. WEEK 2

Rebuilding The Walls of Integrity and Honour

As ambassadors for Christ and priests in His kingdom, we are called to uphold the highest standards of integrity in our public and private lives. In 2010, the Corruption Index by Transparency International ranked Malaysia at 56 out of 178 countries, with a score of 4.4%, a decline from the previous year. There is an urgency to ensure reforms are brought to the nation. In these times, it is imperative that the Church shines as a beacon of light for transparency, truth and accountability. If we desire to see revival, harmony, unity and order in our nation, we need to address the issue of honouring God and honouring one another. We need to deal with our disobedience, negative attitudes and pride so that all generations, families, churches and nation will be healed, restoring God's order of transformation for this nation.

Pray that -

We will be blameless and hold fast to truth and integrity in our public and private lives.
We will repent, renounce and be free from every trace of greed and corruption; and for failing to uphold truth and righteousness.
Righteousness, justice and truth will prevail in all strata of society. Pray for God to convict those in authority and citizens of this nation to uphold moral righteousness and stand against all forms of corrupt practices.

Rebuilding the Walls of Intimacy & Prayer!

Intimacy is coming home to the heart of the Father. A heart that is relentless in His pursuit of us.

As we acknowledge and receive His love, we come to that place of intimacy where we know prayer is not getting what we want to but delighting in Him.

Deeper intimacy is borne out of spiritual hunger for God, a hunger that only He can satisfy. Too many Christians view prayer as a duty or as a ministry resource. We ought to pray even if we do not have needs. Prayer is vital to a meaningful relationship with God. It is only through intimacy that we know His heart for the lost, His Church, our nation and the nations of the world. (Adapted from Growing Deep in God by Edmund Chan)

Pray that -

Our hearts will embrace the Father's love and for our personal walls of intimacy to be restored, knowing and living out of a conviction that our security, self worth and significance is found in Him alone.

Prayer Can Bind The Enemy and Cast Him Out!
In this generation, the Christian Church is neglecting teaching about conquering evil spirits. Of course, the devil and his cohorts were conquered on the cross 2,000 years ago, but they still are not put into the eternal dungeon. They are still loose on this earth and are still going around trying to deceive people. Actually, they are conquered enemies, but we still should cast them out.

Jesus Christ conquered them on the cross, but God gave the casting-out responsibility to the Church and each Christian. Christ conquered, but you must cast them out. You are not supposed to conquer the devil and his cohorts... all of them have been conquered already. You should only cast them out so they will not go around and hinder God's children.

That is the reason when Christ left this earth, His last word before ascending into heaven was, "Ye shall cast out demons in my name." That is the last request of Jesus Christ to Christians, so casting the devil out is very important.

The devil is out there all over the place with demonic spirits trying to deceive people. There are unclean spirits, there are evil spirits, there are spirits of divination, and there are spirits of lies; all kinds of spirits are walking around trying to oppress the people. So we should really wage a war against them.

You can only wage war against them in your prayers because they are in the spiritual realm. When you pray, you go directly into the spiritual realm. Whenever I pray, they challenge me because before you go into the presence of God, you must go through this spirit world. You must first fight the devil and his cohorts.

This is the reason I say you should pray more than one hour. Nowadays, it takes me thirty minutes to break through their wall and come into the presence of God. When I kneel down and try to pray, all these spirits come and try to hinder my prayer. I feel itchiness all over my body, then I feel pain in my joints, then some thoughts come to me like, "Cho, why don't you sleep right now? You can pray tomorrow. You are in pain and you are tired. I feel sorry for you. You have been praying so faithfully. Why don't you just pray later?"

The devil puts all these thoughts into my mind. So I pray to conquer those feelings in my physical body. Then when any useless thought swarms into my mind; I push them away and keep on praying. Suddenly, I feel free. When I unshackle myself from all the chains of the devil, then I can go into the presence of the Holy Spirit right away. Now the real praying starts.

Before they break through the hindering spirits and binding walls, many people stop praying, so their prayer never reaches the throne of God. Before they reach the throne of God, they stop praying.

Praying five or ten minutes every day is fine. It is better than not praying at all. But, if you pray five or ten minutes, you just scratch the surface and make the devil just miserable enough, and you will be in worse trouble.

God has given me a very, very strange gift. When the devil's demon comes and oppresses me, I don't see him, but when I cast him out of myself, then I can see him. Isn't that a strange gift?

Prayer for the Nation

This is a command from God to pray for the nations and he will give it to us as an inheritance. Therefore, let us pray for our nation Malaysia that the people who do not know Jesus Christ will come to know Him as Lord. It looks difficult to us but let us trust in God that He will answer our prayer. God asks us to do the possible and He will take care of what we see as impossible.

The Old Testament abounds with examples of the course of an entire nation being changed as the result of intercessory prayer. Consider, Nehemiah, serving in exile as a cupbearer to the Persian king, Artaxexes. He received the report that the wall of Jerusalem had been torn down and the Jewish remnant there was in great trouble - there was no apparent hope for the Jews. But Nehemiah, of Jewish nationality, interceded on behalf of his people. He wept, mourned, and fasted, and prayed before his God. (Nehemiah 1: 4 - 6) God had mercy and answered his prayer and the king granted Nehemiah permission to return to Jerusalem and rebuild the city walls.

Amid intense opposition from surrounding enemies, the task was completed, providing protection for Jerusalem against attack.

God will answer the prayer of His people, but we must obey and pray for the breakthrough of our land "Malaysia". We are going through intense opposition from the enemy, and it is time we intercede fervently.

Although victorious warfare through prayer is often associated with fervent intensity one cannot overlook the necessity of spiritual intimacy that makes possible these victories.Hidden in this (Pro 3:5-6) is one of Scriptures’s greatest lessons on the role that intimacy in God plays as the birthing agent of all the victories that come through prayer, including everything from the receiving of miraculous guidance, physical restoration, personal success or prosperity, to unusual and dramatic victories in spiritual warfare.

We need to know that implicit trust in God guarantees guidance. It is here we are told that if we trust in the Lord implicitly; allowing him to make decisions on our behalf without fear or misgiving, and if we further purpose not to go our own way in the matters of life and conduct, nor lean on our own reasoning, but fully acknowledge every circumstance, decision, thought and opportunity - He will automatically direct our paths. When that happens victory will be achieved, through our surrender to His will and not doing what we desire.

Therefore, let us seek the Lord until we are able “to have total trust in Him and His mighty power”.

Growing in Maturity Through Prayer

Prayer is talking to God - a two way communication. However, if we are to be honest - we must agree that "Prayer" is having union with Christ. In Ephesians 6:10 the Apostle Paul says, "Be strong in the Lord and in your union with Him." (Amp Bible)
Prayer is creative and is an art. Therefore, we must practice. Practice makes a person perfect in what they do. Example, a pianist must practice between 4 to 5 hours a day until they are so good that they do not have to look at the notes.

Prayer must be our lifestyle. Like the Apostle Paul says, "Pray without ceasing" (1 Thessalonians 5:17).

Our Lord Jesus Christ was passionate for Prayer, and He said, "My Father's house is a house of Prayer, and you have made it a den of thieves". Let us follow the ways of our Lord and abide in Him. We will be blessed, our family will be blessed, our church will be blessed and our nation will be blessed. (John 15:7)

We must cultivate a "life of Prayer". A. W. Tozer commented, "Having realized that we must cultivate our inward life, the life in the Spirit, to make smooth the pathway of prayer, we must then actively engage in prayer until all our thoughts and acts are prayers, and the entire life becomes one holy sacrifice of praise, worship, prayer and intercession."

Remember that God is with you, in you and for you.

The Apostle was a man greatly used by God. His high esteem for prayer is remarkable. Paul made "praying" a habit, a business, a lifestyle. He literally gave himself to prayer - which is found in most of the epistles he wrote. He said, "I thank God always on your behalf", "I make mentionof you..." To the Philippian church, he write to them saying, I thank my god always in my prayer of mine for you" Phi 1:3.

Paul's prayer was something tangible - it supplied substance; the bone, the marrow of his righteous life. He knew that answered prayer was a "key" to making his ministry successful. He knew his apostolic mission was sealed by his trust in Jesus Christ - His Lord. Through prayer, he accomplished his work, crowned his work, his life, and his death with martyr principles.

At the end of his life he encouraged the church to follow his example as he followed Christ. No wonder God made him so fruitful. Let us follow the Apostle Paul's advice and be men and women of prayer.

PRAYER engages the enemy in spiritual battle. By prayer we invade his vast domain of sin and break sin's dominance and power. Persevering, unyielding, day and night urgency in prayer for the Holy Spirit's outpouring will bring showers of converting grace, and will make the altars of our God again blaze with the old time fire.

Let every Christian covenant with God to besiege the Throne of grace with fervent prayer, with every-increasing fervent prayer until heavens are opened and revival is sweeping our land. Let the Church and companies of Christians unite their hearts in prayer for revival with unbending purpose. Let days of fasting and prayer be proclaimed.

To focus prayer on a nation-wide revival will hasten its coming. The scattered rays of the sun produce light but the focused rays of the sun produce fire! The most important essential to victorious prayer is definiteness. Indefinite prayers are powerless prayers. A sense of the tremendous issues at stake give prayer it definiteness.

The responsibility of bringing revival is yours, is mine! "Only by dint of our greatest effort, by our utmost unselfishness, by infinite willingness, and our capacity for self-sacrifice" will the forces of evil in the nation be dislodged and a revival of righteousness sweep the land clean from ocean to ocean.

"Strengthen yourselves in the omnipotence of God. Do not say, "Is God able?". Say, rather, "God is able!"

Let's preach revival! Sing revival! Pray revival - until a mighty soul-saving, sinner-converting, saint-edifying revival of righteousness is sweeping our nation clean of its crime, unchastity and ungodliness.

"Drop down, ye heavens, from above, and let the skies pour down righteousness: let the earth open, and let them bring forth salvation, and let righteousness spring up together; I the Lord have created it" (Isa 45:8)

PRAYER FOR THE CITY

The times we are living in are not very different from the times of Sodom and Gomorrah. There is great wickedness, sinning, oppression, cruelty and unjust treatment!!

Gen 13:13 But the men of Sodom were wicked and sinners before the LORD exceedingly.

Gen 18:20 And the LORD said, Because the cry of Sodom and Gomorrah is great, and because their sin is very grievous;

Gen 18:21 I will go down now, and see whether they have done altogether according to the cry of it, which is come unto me; and if not, I will know.

There is hostility, perversion, sexual immorality, bloodshed, corruption and injustice.

Isa 1:10 Hear the word of the LORD, ye rulers of Sodom; give ear unto the law of our God, ye people of Gomorrah.

Isa 1:11 To what purpose is the multitude of your sacrifices unto me? saith the LORD: I am full of the burnt offerings of rams, and the fat of fed beasts; and I delight not in the blood of bullocks, or of lambs, or of he goats.

The times we are living in - idolatrous, arrogant, overfed, unconcerned about the poor and needy.

Eze 16:48 As I live, saith the Lord GOD, Sodom thy sister hath not done, she nor her daughters, as thou hast done, thou and thy daughters.

Eze 16:49 Behold, this was the iniquity of thy sister Sodom, pride, fulness of bread, and abundance of idleness was in her and in her daughters, neither did she strengthen the hand of the poor and needy.

Eze 16:50 And they were haughty, and committed abomination before me: therefore I took them away as I saw good.

In the midst of this darkness is the CHURCH!

The Legacy of Repentance

All nations have heroes, but Israel may be alone in making history about its greatest hero’s failing. Psalm 51:1 - 18 shows King David (the greatest king in Israel) repenting of his sins. This eloquent psalm shows that Israel ultimately remembered David more for his devotion to God than his political achievements.

Step by step the psalm takes the leader through the stages of repentance. It describes the constant mental replays, the gnawing guilt, the shame, and finally the hope of a new beginning that springs from true repentance of prayer.

In a remarkable way, Psalm 51 reveals the true nature of sin as a broken relation relationship with God. King David cries out in prayaer - “Against You, You only, have I sinned.” - verse 4. He sees that the sacrifices God wants are “a broken spirit, a broken and contrite heart: verst 17. Those David has.

In his prayer, King David looks for possible good that might come out of his tragedy and sees a glimmer of light.

By reading this story of sin, we might avoid the same pitfalls; or by reading his confession we might gain hope in forgiveness from Jesus Christ - our Lord. The best king of Israel has fallen the furthest; but we cannot fall out of or beyond the reach of God’s love and forgiveness.

Let us heed the voice of the Holy Spirit to come to God in devotion and prayer.

Greatest Intercessors in History

There was a time Moses changed God's mind. The people of Israel had sinned so greatly that God was going to destroy them all. God told Moses, "I have seen these people, and behold, it is a stiff-necked people; now therefore let me alone, that my wrath may wax hot against them, and that I may consume them." (Ex. 32:9,10) Then Moses pleaded with God, "Turn...and repent of this evil against thy people." (Ex. 32:12)

Pay attention to this! And the Lord repented of the evil which He thought to do unto his people. (Ex. 32:14) We can change God's mind! He commanded us to do so.

The Story of Martin Luther:
One day in 1540, Martin Luther's friend, Fredrick Myconius became deadly ill. He wrote a farewell letter to Luther. When Luther received the letter from his dying friend, he sent back this reply: "I command thee in the name of God to live because I still have need of thee in the work of reforming the church. The Lord will never let me hear that thou art dead, but will permit thee to survive me. For this I am praying. This is my will, and may my will be done because I seek only to glorify the name of God." By the time Luther's letter reached him, Frederic had already lost his ability to speak but in a short while he was well and was strong again. God answered Luther's prayer in its entirety because Frederick outlived Luther by two months.

We need to ask HIM not only to transform our church but the nation of Malaysia.

2 Chronicles 7:14 - "... if My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.' is our prayer focus.

We need to:

Ask the Lord Jesus and the Holy Spirit to make us humble and compassionate to seek after God in prayer and intercession. Mark 11:22 - 24 (NIV) Jesus says, "Have faith in God, "......whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours." How wonderful!
Pray according to Apostle Paul's advice in Ephesians 6:18 (NIV) "And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying..."
We need to turn away from our sins and confess our sins daily. The Apostle John in 1 John 1:9 (NIV) says, "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness."

When we come to God in this manner He will answer us because we are praying according to His will. Praise the Lord!

Mighty Prayer Brings Results

JONAH called upon God, when he suffered a strange and terrifying experience while in the belly of the whale. GOD heard him and caused the whale to vomit him out on dry land. What possible force could have rescued him from this fearful place? Jonah seemed hopelessly lost, in "the belly of hell" (Jonah 2:2), but he PRAYED - what else could he do? He had been accustomed to doing this when he was in trouble.

Jonah says, "I cried by reason of mine affliction unto the Lord, and He heard me; out of the belly of hell cried I, and Thou heard my voice...And the Lord spake unto the fish, and it vomited out Jonah upon the dray land." (Jonah 2:2, 10)

Like others, he joined prayer to a vow he had made, as he says in his prayer, "But I will sacrifice unto Thee with the voice of thanksgiving; I will pay that that I have vowed. Salvation is of the Lord." (Jonah 2:9)

PRAYER was the mighty force which brought Jonah from "the belly of hell." Prayer, mighty prayer, secured the end. Prayer brought God to the rescue of unfaithful Jonah, despite his sin of fleeing from duty. God could not deny his prayer. Nothing is beyond the reach of prayer because no prayer is too hard for God to answer.

The mighty results of Jonah's prayer became an Old Testament type of the miraculous power displayed in the resurrection from the dead of Jesus Christ.

Jesus Himself said, "Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you."

Renuka Ananda, in New Zealand, was prayed for on 22-Nov. On 27-Nov a call came from New Zealand. She said. “I am very thankful to God, He has healed me - I’m ready to accept Jesus Christ”. Praise God for her miracle of healing. Doctors were so amazed and they say it is a miracle for 3rd stage cancer to be healed with no traces whatsoever. He is truly a miracle working God!

WHY PRAY FOR THE EAST MALAYSIAN CHURCH?

92% of Malaysia's Christian population is concentrated in East Malaysia. East Malaysian natives form approximately 59% of Malaysian Christians.
Majority regard themselves as 'Christian' based on their family background or baptism into a denomination. Daily living out the Christian faith based on a personal relationship with God is an alien concept.
More emphasis on retaining members and adding numbers to own denominations.
Prevailing pride in church traditions (some of which are non-Biblical). Move of the Holy Spirit is quenched. Resistance to change makes churches irrelevant to youth and society at large.
Shallow understanding of the Word: Many Christians do not even own Bibles.
Many professing Christians are involved in the occult, alcoholism, gambling and immorality.
A lack of concern for the lost.
Cults and other religious groups making inroads among Christians ( especially younger generation).

PRAYER POINTS

REVIVAL - For conviction of the need to be born-again believers; believers to be shaken out of complacency.

TRUE UNITY - For denominational walls to be broken down; pray against the prevailing pride.

PRIDE IN TRADITIONS - For church leaders to be convicted of the dangers of putting man-made traditions as the foundation of their churches.

HUNGER FOR THE WORD - For conviction of the importance of the Word; hunger among Christians for the Word; verify all doctrines with the Word.

COMPROMISE - For conviction of areas of compromise (pagan practices, alcoholism, gambling, immorality); leaders may speak boldly against such practices.

LIVING FAITH - For Christians to live out their faith; apply His laws in social, state and national issues.

CHRIST & OTHERS-CENTRED - For churches to see the needs of the lost and marginalized; heed the call to evangelism and missions.

WORKERS - For more workers & resources to disciple remote congregations; God's provision, protection, guidance and strength upon His servants.

CONVERSION TO OTHER FAITHS - Pray for God's special intervention on lives of would-be converts.
